Reception and cashiering are separate steps. Reception builds the order as a draft from services and packages; the cashier verifies it, takes payment and posts it. Partial payments, HMO/patient splits and company charges are handled on the same screen, and drafts left at day's end carry over with a report of patients who left unpaid.
Receipt numbers are allocated inside the posting transaction, so a failed payment never leaves a gap and two cashiers never receive the same number; this was tested with 50 simultaneous payments. Voids are allowed only before the shift's Z-close, after which a refund slip is required, and each payment request carries a unique key so a dropped connection cannot charge twice.
